Since I am in Florida right now, (I’m sorry to those who are currently feeling the recent cold freeze in other places), I decided to write a post about things other than Disney to do in the Sunshine State.
1. Visit a Zoo.
There are many beautiful zoos and animal preserves in Florida. We have been to the West Palm Zoo and today we are headed to Tampa to visit the Lowry Park Zoo, which has been voted the #1 zoo in the U.S.!
Deal tip: You can get 50% off, or sometimes even free admission if you are already a member of another zoo. This is called the zoo reciprocal program. You can check out the listing of involved zoos here: Zoo Reciprocal list We are members of the Elmwood Park Zoo therefore we get 50% off the admission at most other zoos around the country! I am always searching for a deal!
2. Shockingly enough Florida is home to some of the best beaches in the world! (That was definitely sarcastic, because of course they are!) We have been to a few of them, such as West Palm Beach and the white sand, clear aqua blue water & perfect view can be just breathtaking. Some other good family friendly Florida beach towns (Wow! Say that tongue twister a few times!) are: Pass A Grille and Clearwater Beach. They both offer lots of free family events right on the beach!
3. Legoland is a fun amusement park to visit if you have little (or big!) lego lovers in your household. Their admission prices are relatively reasonable and you can always find a deal, sometimes even 2 for 1 admission. They are in the process of building an onsite hotel, which will be ready in 2015.
5. Gatorland If you ever wanted to get up close and hopefully not too personal with some crocs & gators then this is your place! There is even a Gator Jumperoo Show!
6. Kennedy Space Center
Besides all of the history that this special center has to offer, you can even participate in an Astronaut Encounter where you will come face-to-face with a real astronaut every day in this half-hour, interactive question and answer session.
7. If you are looking for some all day water and sea life fun, then you must plan to spend a day at my favorite Florida waterpark, Aquatica. This is Sea World’s waterpark, which opened about 5 years ago, and it’s amazing. There are rapids, slides (with Dolphins in the water as you take the plunge!), rides, coves to swim in, shows & so much more!
I hope that list will help give people some options for family fun in Florida, besides Disney!
Are there some non-Disney things that you or your family like to do in Florida?
